As Senior Designer at Bothwell Site Design, Dorothy led the design of this new house built for a family of five that fits into the fabric of the community in its vernacular style. Its contemporary interior with open floor plan caters to the needs of the family. The dual nature of this design allowed the landscape to explore themes of contemporary vernacular, organizing the property into three distinct zones, front to back: Vernacular, contemporary, meadow and wooded knoll.
The vernacular front is designed with a traditional dry-laid fieldstone wall, patches of intuitively ordered planting beds, and fieldstone terrace and bluestone walks. A large raised terrace is nestled in the contemporary rear, and includes a rectangular koi poid, a timberframe pergola, and an outdoor shower. Traditional materials were used in contemporary patterns and designs. The terrace looks out over a rectangular lawn enclosed by meadow grasses and punctuated by a wooded knoll.
